Bigwave Robotics Deploys Humanoids in Modular Housing Production, Igniting 'Construction Automation'
Bigwave Robotics will deploy humanoid robots at Space Factory’s modular housing sites, automating high-risk tasks and advancing Physical AI.
TROY, MI, UNITED STATES, September 21, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- With modular housing emerging as a key solution to the worsening global housing shortage, industrial Physical AI expert Bigwave Robotics is opening a new horizon in construction automation by deploying humanoid robots at the largest modular housing production site.
Bigwave Robotics announced a strategic partnership with Space Factory, a leading innovator in wooden modular housing, to implement humanoid robots across its production and construction sites in phases starting in 2026.
Equipped with a world-class robotic automation line, Space Factory has led high-quality standardization by prefabricating a significant portion of housing in factories. The company is also spearheading the digital transformation (DX) of living environments, recently unveiling the 'Samsung AI Modular Home' integrated with Samsung Electronics' AI and IoT technologies. This agreement is highly significant as it pushes process efficiency to the absolute limit by introducing next-generation humanoid robots to an already highly automated modular production line.
The first targeted process by both companies is 'insulation installation.' Fiberglass, commonly used for insulation, is a high-risk material harmful to workers' respiratory and skin health. Due to the flexible and irregular 'unstructured' nature of the material, it has been a notoriously difficult process with clear limitations for automation using conventional legacy robots.
Through this collaboration, Bigwave Robotics replaces high-difficulty processes unconquered by legacy robots with humanoids, laying the practical groundwork for a fully unmanned 'Dark Factory.' Beyond mere technical demonstrations or R&D, the company aims to accumulate and analyze unstructured task data from real industrial sites to perfect a Physical AI solution fully optimized for construction environments.
"With the housing supply shortage intensifying daily, improving the production efficiency of modular housing will be a key solution for rapid housing delivery," emphasized Jungjin Park, CEO of Space Factory. "Through the deployment of these humanoids, we expect Space Factory's renowned robot-based production processes to take a massive leap forward."
Bigwave Robotics has already achieved differentiated commercial success with its humanoid initiatives. According to company data, humanoid-related business accounts for approximately 20% of its total revenue this year, securing a highly visible revenue base. Moving beyond simple robot supply, the company is rapidly expanding real-world validation cases of immediately applicable solutions, with delivery track records to major heavy industry affiliates, cosmetics companies, and automotive parts manufacturers.
"This collaboration holds deep industrial significance as it drastically expands the territory of humanoids from traditional manufacturing and logistics into the construction and modular housing sectors," stated Minkyo Kim, CEO of Bigwave Robotics. "Based on the high-quality data secured from actual field operations, we will advance our construction-specific Physical AI solutions to actively target the global modular housing market."
Beginning with the insulation installation process, Bigwave Robotics plans to continuously identify additional processes that humanoids can automate at Space Factory sites, ultimately leading the humanoid automation ecosystem across the broader modular housing and construction industries.
